Sockings, cotton, fabric with mixed media

2021

It is a mixed-media installation and performance piece that reflects my growing process as a young woman. The nest above represents protection from my family, and I made it incline to represent its deconstruction process. I used a range of materials for nest making. The silk stocking with cotton fill-ins was inspired by Sarah Lucas who is an artist making soft sculptures by using daily objects. The use of wool and other fabric expresses my interest in femininity and crafty art, for fabric throughout history always has a strong connection with female labor. I used color spays and foam glue to create a rough surface. The blue garment was made from my old princess dress, which shows my transformation into a new self. I also did some testing with textiles. For example, I glued green paper on plastic bags and sealed it onto the top part of the garment to create a special texture. Various materials created a synergy, transcending the property as if they were on their own.
